Tasting Notes
In its youth d'Arry's Original displays a bright magenta like brick red color. The
nose attacks with lifted spicy cinnamon plum, mulberry & prune aromas.
Typically cherry, wild strawberry & lolly-like musk smells, as well as tighter
liquorice, spice, rosemary & fennel.
Hints of coffee & caramel on the nose are quite evident on the palate; a
backdrop for cherry-raspberry & richer mulberry-blackberry primary fruit. The
palate is typically d'Arenberg and McLaren Vale, soft and rich in the middle,
rolling on to a soft but slightly piquant acid/tannin finish.
Well cellared, d'Arry's Original becomes, soft, generous, full flavored, velvety
long and seamless in bottle, with no particular component standing out, as more
than four decades of previous vintages have shown. Background
This wine is named in honor of d’Arenberg’s principal, Francis “d’Arry” d’Arenberg
Osborn. It is the culmination of more than half a century of d’Arry’s winemaking
career at his family winery in McLaren Vale. d’Arry’s Original blend, first launched
some four decades ago, was and is to this day a blend of shiraz and grenache
grown on the 19th century low yielding vineyards.
