Over 50 years of winemaking experience – the two Mak winemakers are two of Australia 's finest with countless awards behind them – red winemaker Kym Tolley, whose own Penley Estate wines are among Australia 's leading cabernets and white winemaker Neville Falkenberg who developed the famed Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay.

Mak's "Core of Regional Australia" philospohy focuses on the vineyard, because as we all know, that's where it all starts. land-holdings in Victoria's heathcote are fleshed out by an impressive roster of mates' vineyards in benchmark regions where a handshake secures the supply of top quality fruit. The elevated slopes of cool-climate Adelaide Hills provide Chardonnay fruit of elegance and vitality. Clare Valley's continental climate delivers ripe Shiraz fruit with abundant natural acidity and spciy mineralilty. Cool-climate Coonawarra, with its infamous terra rossa soils and long, slow ripening period, produces complex Cabernets of power, sturcture and finesse. Finally, Marlborough's sunny and dry, though decidely cool, climate provides Sauvignon Blanc of pungent aromatics and lush fruit Character.
